  1. Folks,
Our first match was a very keenly contested game with the result coming in the penultimate ball of the last over. It was a nail biting finish and had all the essence of an IPL match.

We lost our first match :-( but i feel it was good game for all of us. Our next match with Quartz is going to be tough but i personally feel we can win this match as Dahlia has a very strong team. People are very committed and we definitely have lot of talent.

We lost the toss to Primrose but were relieved when Primrose chose to field. We had some early unfortunate losses with Piyush and Bipal (our openers) going out in early overs of the match. Puneet and Jitesh also were out with not too much score on the board. We were 18/4 in the first 5 overs. We then had Krishna and Aman steady the innings. Aman turned out to be our highest scorer of the day with 24 runs to his credit. We then had our Yusuf Pathan (Rahul) come in at the later stage and improve on the run rate. He had the second highest score with 20 runs to his credit. Prashant (our keeper) gave good support to Rahul in the end. I was the last man in to bat and had to literally call Prashant back so that i get an opporuntiy to bat in the last over. We did score well to in the last over with 10 coming in the last over itself.
Our final score was 107/8 in 15 overs and we were very happy with our score. We started with our best bowlers Ashish and Piyush and had Primrose struggling at 25/5 in 6 overs. We were very happy with our performance so far and that was the turning point. I think somewhere we became complacent too and literally lost the game (5th ball of the final over) in the last 5 overs. Primrose had 2 players in the middle order who literally snatched the victory from us.

Fielding was okay from our side. We did loose lot of fours which could have saved our match but our opponent also gave away lot of fours for us. So we were even in fielding. We were missing 1 good bowler from our side though and hope we can take this learning and win our next match.

    Regards,
    Amitabh

  2. The 2nd match in this tournament was played today between the Blue Devils and the Jasmine Team. Jasmine won the match.

    Jasmine - 125/6 in 15 overs
    Blue Devils - 113/5 in 15 overs

Jasmine won the toss and elected to bat first. They started the innings very well with their opening pair Pankaj and Udayan. The first wicket partnership was for 25 runs and it helped steady their innings. Unfortunately they had 2 wickets falling in quick succession (Neil and Raghu) with some good bowling attack from Quartz. It felt like this one will turn out to be a low scoring game. It was left to Pankaj and Sudheer to put up some runs on the board. They overcame the setback and were cruising to 75 when the 4th wicket fell. It was then that Vishal came (jasmine's pathan) and made a blazing 41 runs and was not out till the end. It boosted Jasmine's run rate and they finished with 125 runs on the board. The Blue Devils bowling was good but the last 3 overs from Anindya and Dush was severely punished by Vishal. The pressure was telling on the Blue Devils on these last overs as there were some crucial misses by their fielders.

The Blue Devils started very poorly with their 1st wicket (Krishnan) going in the 3rd ball of the 1st over with no score on board. Jasmine bowling was also very tight and they did not give away easy runs like wides and byes. Inspite of that Brij and Anindya put in some decent score and at one point in time the Blue Devils looked like winning this game easily. The breakthrough for Jasmine came just after the strategy time out when Brij was out in the very first over after the time out. Jasmine's star bowler Raghu was key striker and ended up with 3 wickets and only 6 runs from his over. Anindya, Naresh and others from Blue Devil team put up a strong fight but the bowling from Jasmine was very tight and the runs were not coming very easily. The last 2 overs was very crucial with 25 to score off them and the Blue Devils were finally held at 113 at the end of 15 overs.

All in all it was once again a very interesting match with the luck swinging on either side and it was very difficult to predict who will win. Whatever be the result, it was finally the cricketing spirit that won.

The 4th match between Blue Devils and Dahlia (on 31-May) will be an interesting one as both the teams will surely put in everything that they have.

  4. On behalf of Amitabh....

    Hello Everybody,
Finally the league has come to an end. Jasmine team has emerged as the winner and have been the undefeated champions till now. Primrose have been the runners up in this league.

The tournament turned out to be great event and i came to know of lot of people in this neighborhood which was personally very satisfying. All the games were played in the true spirit of cricket and i would like to take this opportunity and thank everybody who went out of their way to make this successful. This happened only because we all were very proactive and wanted this to be successful. Lot of problem were identified by everybody in advance which definitely resulted in the smooth coordination of the games. I hope this enthusiasm continues and we will be able to do a better job in our next league. Some of the learning that i take back with me -
    1. Have 2 matches a day..
    2. Have each team play the other team at least 2 times
    3. Get other complexes to participate too (Sobha, non Sobha, corporates.. etc)
    4. Better planning for support folks requirement
    5. Get some sponsorship if possible

Please share if anybody has any thing to add to this list or any suggestion to address any of the things listed above.

Once again thanks a lot all for making this successful.

Hope to meet you all as soon as possible so that we can start planning for our next league match.
